Quick Q+A about QA

Q: Does it cost extra?
A: No, having QA info included in your project is free of charge.

Q: Which languages can you use it for?
A: All the languages we offer

Q: Does it take longer?
A: Marginally, but it shouldn’t affect your deadline.

Q: Which file types does it work with?
A: All editable files that can be opened in TagEditor for example, i.e. bilingual files translated with CAT tools (Trados, TagEditor, Wordfast, SDLX, Déjà vu, Star Transit) but not scans, PDF or jpgs etc.

Q: Do you need anything in particular from the client?
A: If you provide us with a Translation Memory, QA check will emphasise the errors where the segments were translated differently from the TM. If you have your own TermBase, QA will ensure that the same terminology is used.

Q: What kind of things can be picked up by this system?
A: Double spaces, numeric mismatches, keyterm mismatches, untranslated segments, tag mismatches and missing/broken tags, inconsistencies in source/target etc.

Q: Are there any disadvantages?
A: As the QA system works with a CAT tool, the translators who cannot work with such a tool cannot be chosen for a project where a QA statement is needed.

Q. Does this mean we will receive a report of QA checks for an error-free file?
A: The report might still show some errors (e.g. ‘untranslated segment’ for sentences that are not supposed to be translated; ‘numeric mismatch’ for sentences containing a number translated as word – 3 translated as three). Those are actually ‘false positive’ errors.
